JORHAT, Feb 14 - The sporting fraternity of the State condoled the death of former Santosh Trophy player and noted sports organiser Nripen Sabhapandit.
Sabhapandit passed away on Thursday in a private nursing home here. He was 75.
Sabhapandit, a resident of Nazir Ali here and a sports pensioner of the Assam Government leaves behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives.
His last rites were today performed at the Tarajan Cremation Ground in presence of his family members, relatives and a large number of well-wishers.
Sabhapandit represented Gauhati University and Jorhat district on many occasions and also played for Assam in the Santosh Trophy during 1965-66. He was also invited for Junior India trial along with Indrajit Namchum.
Sabhapandit also played for Gauhati Town Club. He was also former office-bearers of Jorhat District Sports Association and Jorhat Club.
Former Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today visited Sabhapandit’s residence and offered his condolences. State Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami, JDSA and several organisations have also condoled his death. JDSA president Santanu Puzari also visited the residence of Sabhapandit and offered condolences.
