Book on gastro endoscopic surgical advances

 GUWAHATI, Feb 14 - Swagat Academy of Medical Sciences in association with the Indian Association of Gastro Intestinal Endo Surgeons (IAGES), released the second international edition of endolaparoscopic surgical book – Recent Advances in Minimal Access Surgery.

According to a delayed press release, the book was released by Governor Prof Jagadish Mukhi at the 17th national congress of IAGES held at the Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra on February 7 in the presence of nearly 1,500 delegates-members and invited dignitaries. Prof Mukhi lauded the efforts of Dr Subhash Khanna, chief editor of the book, saying it was a matter of great pride that a surgeon from the region had taken such a bold initiative.

According to Dr Khanna who had conceptualised the book in series form, the second edition is more organ-focused and so also shall be the future editions. This volume has chapters on laparoscopic surgery on lumens of organs, covering oesophagus, stomach, bowel and colon. The foreword to the book has been given by president of the Society of American Gastro-Endoscopic Surgeons Prof Arora Pryor, who also attended the function.

Prof CR Selvasekar, colorectal oncosurgeon from Christie Hospital, Manchester, is the invited editor for the second edition. Dr M Kanagavel and Dr Ramesh Agarwalla are the associate editors.

The function was also attended by Justice Ujjal Bhuyan of the Bombay High Court.
