Charaideo inaugurated as a new dist

 SONARI, Feb 14 - The newly-constituted Charaideo district with Sonari as its headquarters was jointly inaugurated on Saturday by Sarat Borkatoky, Minister of Education, Pension and Public Grievances and Ajanta Neog, PWD Minister, Assam. Pawan Singh Ghatowar, ex- Central minister and president, ACMS; Sarat Saikia, Parliamentary Secretary and MLA, Mahmora; Susanta Buragohain, Parliamentary Secretary and MLA, Demow; Pawan Borthakur, Principal Secretary, Education; Ramesh Jain, Secretary, Education Department; Mukti Gogoi, Upper Assam Commissioner; Birendra Mittal, Deputy Commissioner, Sivasagar were present on the occasion.

A meeting was also organized at the public playground here to mark the historical day of the new district. Addressing the gathering, Borkatoky said that by inaugurating Charaideo as a district he felt proud. He recalled his memories as MLA of Sonari constituency for 25 years. Ajanta Neog also addressed the meeting.

Earlier, Monimala Phukon Borthakur, the first Deputy Commissioner of Charaideo district delivered the welcome address. She recalled the contribution of Chaolung Sukafa, the first Ahom Swargadeo who established Charaideo as the first capital of Ahom kingdom in 1228.
