Militant killed in South Garo Hills

 TURA, Feb 14 - An unidentified ASAK cadre was killed in a police operation today. South Garo Hills police received a tip-off on the presence of a group of militants near Kemdang under Baghmara Police Station following which the operation was carried out.

The unidentified cadre was part of a group of about five-six cadres led by the outfit’s commander-in-chief, Reding T Sangma. ASAK is suspected to be behind several kidnappings in the region, with most of those kidnapped still untraced.

According to police, a SWAT team of police launched an operation last night. A chance encounter took place near Kemdang village today after which the militants fled.

During a search of the area after the encounter, one unidentified cadre along with one pistol, some live ammunition and sim cards were recovered, said IGP (Law and Order), GHP Raju.
