Minor rescued, sent to shelter home
Correspondent
TEZPUR, Feb 13 - Taking cognisance of reports in certain sections of the media, about alleged selling of a minor by a person hailing from Borchalla in Sonitpur district, the Sonitpur district administration instituted an enquiry into the matter and the child has since been rescued and placed in a children shelter home.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Kulen Sharma ordered an enquiry into the matter through District Social Welfare Officer Samsera Hazarika. A spot investigation was carried out by social worker Harsha Jyoti Phukan and outreach worker Anjan Das of the District Child Protection Unit with the help of I/C Borchalla Police outpost Malindra Bora.

Upon enquiry it was found that the father of the child had handed him over to one Gana Bahadur Karkey three months ago due to his poor economic condition and that the child was being taken care of and was undergoing medical treatment at Karkey’s house. Since Karkey did not possess any legal document as proof of taking the child from the father, the matter was reported back to ADC Kulen Sharma and after necessary permission and the child was rescued with the help of Borchalla Police outpost officials and transferred to a children home on the same day. A case has been registered at Borchalla Police outpost in this connection.

The father of the child was asked to be present before the District Child Welfare Committee in this connection.
