IMPHAL, Feb 12 - Renowned Yoga guru Swami Ramdev has expressed his desire to introduce Yoga courses in Manipur University as well as in the upcoming Cultural University in the State.
“I will speak to Human Resources Development Minister Smriti Irani (for the introduction of Yoga courses), if necessary”, said Baba Ramdev, who is the founder of the Patanjali group of institutions, while speaking to media persons here on Friday. Swami Baba Ramdev arrived here on a five-day visit to the State, to hold a three-day yoga and meditation camp at Hafta Kangjeibung from tomorrow.
Baba Ramdev appealed to the people to promote Yoga as a way of life. “Yoga not only prevents diseases but also cures diseases including cancer unlike modern medicines which only controls the diseases,” claimed Baba Ramdev, who is best known for popularising Yoga among Indians through his mass yoga camps. “We have scientific evidences on the power of yoga.” Nearly 20 crore people across the world have attended yoga camps organised by Swami Baba Ramdev.
Expressing his desire to promote Yoga in Manipur, Baba Ramdev announced that his organisation will sanction a sum of Rs 2 crore to establish two yoga centres – one Acharyakulam, a residential vedic and modern education school in Imphal and Veda Vidyalaya in Char Hajar in Senapati district.
“We’re looking for a suitable site for the establishment of the Acharyakulam to provide CBSE pattern international standard education to 2000-2500 students (Class V-XII) through day-boarding system,” MC Binod, State head Patanjali Yog Samiti (PYS) said. In Manipur, five organisations – PYS, Bharat Swabhiman Trust, Mahila Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Kishan Panchayat and Yuva Bharat have been imparting yoga training in 420 centres in eight districts. Imphal alone has 237 yoga training centres, according to MC Binod.
