SILCHAR, Feb 11 - In what could be called a unique gesture towards providing better facilities to people living in rural areas, drinking water services in the form of ATM-based drinking water services were inaugurated at Kalain Fast Referral Unit and also at the Katigorah-based Model Hospital in Cachar district on Sunday. Cachar Deputy Commissioner Laya Madduri inaugurated the water ATMs in the presence of Katigorah MLA Amar Chand Jain.
Detained: At least nine persons including five minors were detained by Cachar Police on Sunday evening.
Additional SP (Border) Gaurav Agarwal told The Assam Tribune on Monday that two persons were taken on police remand while five minors were sent to a rehabilitation centre. Others have been sent to judicial custody.
A couple had come and stayed at the residence of Sibul Islam Barbhuiya at Sonabarighat from where seven others were picked up. They had entered via the international border at Tripura. Earlier, Cachar SP Mughdhajyoti Dev Mahanta had said, “the persons were detained under suspicion to be Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals. We will interrogate them and investigate the case.”
