Concentrate on your studies, students told

 DERGAON, Feb 11 - “The only way to the top of the hierarchical ladder is to prove one’s worth in open competition,” opined Gauhati University research scholar and senior journalist Sanjoy Kumar Hazarika while speaking as distinguished guest at a freshmen social function held at the Amar Sarma High School here on Thursday.

He urged the teachers and guardians present to always remain alert against negative forces insofar as crass consumerism and self-centredness in society were concerned.

He also urged the students to be engrossed in serious study through perseverance and scientific planning along with other day-to-day social activities of family and friends. He also urged the students to hone their talents and nurture good social character during the formative stage of their lives.

Hazarika highlighted the rich legacy of the school at the meeting which was chaired by the president of the school managing and development committee (SMDC) Binod Kumar Sarma and moderated by Headmaster Md. Abdus Saddek. It was attended by the vice-president of the SMDC and retired teacher of the school, Ranjan Sarma, Assistant Headmaster Taru Bora, retired Head master of Negheriting High School Tarun Baruah, senior citizen Pulin Kalita along with several other teachers of the school.

Several songs and Bihu dance were presented by the students and the teachers. In the prize-distribution ceremony which was moderated by teacher Mriganka Thakur and assisted by senior teacher Ripun Kondoly, Gitarthi Thakur, Maloya Saikia, Sushmita Phukan and Parismita Bora, prizes of the different competitions held during the annual sports meet were given away to the winners. The freshers were greeted with flowers at the open session.

SMDC president Binod Kumar Sarma stressed on dedicated service from the teaching fraternity followed by sincere academic labour by the students for betterment of the school’s scholastic achievements.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks offered by Headmaster Abdus Saddek.
