Main aim of education is to create good, conscientious citizens: Guv
GUWAHATI, Feb 11 - “The main purpose of education is to produce good, productive and conscientious citizens,” said Assam Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi while attending the closing ceremony of the golden jubilee celebrations of DAV High School, Ulubari, at the District Library here today.

During his speech, the Governor expressed his happiness and congratulated the entire fraternity of DAV High School, Guwahati, on the completion of 50 years. The school has supported its students by providing them opportunities and challenges that have enabled them to imbibe values, commitments and services for manifesting a knowledge-driven society, Prof Mukhi added.

The Governor said that completion of 50 years of delivering quality education is a momentous occasion, which indeed is a source of inspiration for the school fraternity. He told the students to believe that they belong to an extraordinary school which was established with some noble objective. Referring to the role of education during the period of freedom struggle, the Governor said education was mainly imparted to teach the students the country’s unique cultural facets and instil in them a sense of patriotism.

“Unless students feel that the nation comes before the self, the essence of education cannot be manifested,” he said.

Prof Mukhi also said that DAV School, based on the ideals of the religious and social reformer Swami Dayanand Saraswati, lays stress on women education and women empowerment. Swami Dayanand Saraswati worked hard to abolish superstition and firmly believed that education is the only means through which superstition can be removed. It is a matter of great satisfaction that a network of more than 900 DAV schools have taken the responsibility to create genuine Indian citizens.

Prof Mukhi also informed that personalities like Lala Lajpat Rai and former Prime Ministers Late IK Gujral and Dr Manmohan Singh are the alumni of the DAV school.
