Lifetime awards to several achievers |
GUWAHATI, Feb 10 - The Sports and Cultural Festival Committee, on the occasion of the 104th birth anniversary of Louhapurush Premada Kanta Sarma, conferred the lifetime achievement award on Prasanta Jyoti Barua, executive editor of The Assam Tribune, in the field of journalism, Dr Prabir Bardoloi in the field of medicine, Nanda Banerjee in the field of culture, Ambika Charan Barman in the field of social service, Jahanara Begum in the field of literature and Rajib Prakash Baruah in the field of sports. The award function was held on Saturday evening at the Kumar Bhaskar Natya Mandir.

The annual awardees were Joseph Lepcha of Sikkim for ‘Best Journalist’, Nagen Bongjang for ‘Best Sports Organiser’, Hriday Hazarika for ‘Best Player – Shooting’, Khargeswar Das for ‘Best Cultural Organiser – Amateur Drama’, Ramesh Talukdar for ‘Best Playwright’ and Prafulla Barman for ‘Literature’.
Moreover, the special jury awards were conferred on actor Adhar Das, singer Dr Shyamal Prasad Saikia, writer Manisha Sarma, drama activist Siddhartha Roy, sculptor Deep Ahmed and publisher Lily Devi Kakati.
The best drama group award in the mobile theatre category went to Bhagyadevi Theatre. Mridul Bhuyan and Prastuti Parashar won the award for best actor (for Man Mayurir Sansar) and actress (for Madhuri Mor Naam) respectively, while Mridul Chutiya bagged the best playwright award. Dr Surendra Mohan Mahanta, Ganesh Kr Chubba, Pempa Tamang and Urmila Chakravarty were also felicitated.
Innovation award: The Dinanath Pandey Smart Innovation Award 2019 was today conferred on Imnameren Imsong of Suhoi village in Nagaland for his pig farming technologies.
