Devotees attending the 80th annual conference of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha at Jai Hari Khetra, Bakaliaghat in Karbi Anglong.
HOWRAGHAT, Feb 9 – The 80th annual conference of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha has got off to a smooth start amidst tight security. Though newly formed militant organisation Karbi People’s Liberation Tiger (KPLT) had last year warned the organisers against holding any cultural programme in the district from 7.30 pm, the rebel group today formally withdrew their decision following request from the organising committee.

Devotees from different corners of the State have thronged the annual conference of the Sangha held at Jai Hari Khetra, Bakaliaghat in Karbi Anglong.

As per schedule, the office of the reception committee was inaugurated at 6 am by KAAC chairman Mongal Sing Engti and the main pandal was inaugurated by Harendra Nath Bora, Principal of Rukasen College.

A special delegates’ camp was inaugurated by Suba Ram Bora at 11.30 am. At noon, the delegates’ hall was inaugurated by Assam Parliamentary Secretary, Bidyasing Engleng.

Additional SP, GK Hazarika, who was present to oversee security measures, inaugurated the central council of Sewabahini of the Sangha.

Later, the gate of the open stage was inaugurated by Baneswar Hazarika, ex-president of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, Karbi Anglong.

Altogether five companies of Assam Police personnel have been deployed, besides CRPF and the Army, for smooth functioning of the event.
