NHPC signs MoA with Arunachal Govt

 GUWAHATI, Feb 9 – The National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Arunachal Pradesh Government on sharing power to be generated in the Lower Subansiri Hydroelectric Project (LSHEP).

This development has taken place in the background of the recommendation made by an expert committee appointed as per the decision of a tri-partite discussion among the Assam Government, NHPC and the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) to maintain status quo in respect of the power project.

This has been made public by Jambey Tsering PRO to the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu recently, through a press release.

Tsering said in the press release that on January 27 last, during the second review meeting with Power developers at the Itanagar Banquet Hall, the MoA on the 2000- MW LSHEP (‘Subansiri Lower’) was signed between the Arunachal Pradesh Government and the NHPC. NHPC CMD S K Garg and Arunachal Pradesh Secretary Power T Bagra signed the agreement in presence of Chief Minister and a host of high ranking dignitaries.

According to the MoA, the NHPC shall provide Rs 17 crore for a Law College and Rs 10 crore for a convention hall in the state, in addition to the normal social responsibilities and rehabilitation and resettlement plans according to Arunachal Pradesh R R Policy 2008.
