Six arrested in witch hunting case at Biswanath

 BISWANATH CHARIALI, Feb 5 - Six women were arrested on the charges of assaulting another woman accusing her of practising witchcraft.

Sources said that police had rushed to Diring Bagan under Balichang police out post on Monday night and rescued one Ursila Lohar and took her to Biswanath Chariali PS and then sent her for medical examination as she was attacked.

According to information, some local tea garden women had gathered at the house of one sick woman Salmina Sanga (30), wife of Alecres Lenda of Diring Bagan village, Line no. 2 under Balichang Out Post under Biswanath Chariali Police Station and surrounded Ursila Lohar (40), wife of late Rameshwar Lohar of the same village. They alleged that Ursila Lohar was responsible for the frail health of Salmina Sanga and called her a witch. Six women Puja Bawri (24), Bobita Brikkhi (25), Sabitri Sanga (45), Sinaki Bawri (27), Bholenchiya Bhengra (23) and Anita Sanga (35) were arrested in the case.
