Rally against CAA in Sivasagar
CORRESPONDENT
SIVASAGAR, Feb 5 - In a massive protest rally against CAA, organized by AASU Sivasagar district unit yesterday in Sivasagar Boarding Field, AASU president Dipankar Nath said that the present movement is not against any particular Indian community but against illegal Bangladeshis. He also alleged that the present government has been trying to divide the people in the name of religion. The senior AASU leader said that Sivasagar happened to be the cradle of Assamese nationalism since the days of Sau Lung Siu-Ka-Pha and a place of lasting communal harmony – a fit place for launching the movement to strengthen the community.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi, AASU general secretary, in his speech, severely criticized the political parties for their opportunistic approach to vital issues relating to the state. He reiterated the commitment of AASU not to allow Assam to be a dumping ground for illegal foreigners and a dharamsala for all. “Present government is trying to confuse the people by giving different figures of Hindu Bagladeshis present in the state,” he added. Gogoi said that AASU won’t forget supreme sacrifices made by 855 martyrs of Assam Agitation and, hence, will never allow the government in power to dilute any Section of the Assam Accord for gaining political mileage.
