Mizoram BJP warns unit may be dissolved
Correspondent
AIZAWL, Feb 5 - The Mizoram BJP unit today warned that it would dissolve itself if the national BJP leadership goes ahead with the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, against the wishes of the people of Mizoram and the entire North Eastern region.

Speaking to media persons at the BJP office here, State president Prof JV Hluna said that the BJP State unit was formed to work for the safeguard and interests of the people of Mizoram and if the central leadership decides to legislate the proposed Bill, the State unit would have no choice but to dissolve itself.

“We have approached the Prime Minister, Union Home Minister and other national leaders on the issue and had appealed to the central leadership not to enact the proposed amendment,” he said. The State BJP unit also appealed to the national leaders that if the Centre goes ahead with the proposed legislation, it should at least omit the North Eastern States from the ambit of the amendment, he said.

“We would be left with no alternate but to dissolve the BJP State unit if the central BJP leadership goes ahead with the proposed amendment,” he said. The State BJP unit chief also appealed to the churches in the State to organise a mass prayer so that the proposed Bill is defeated in the Parliament.
