MORIGAON, Feb 3 - All preparations have been completed to hold the 88th session of the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha at the Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaroa Samannay Khetra, Morigaon from February 6 to 9.
More than 6 lakh devotees of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha, the biggest socio-religious organisation of North East India are expected to congregate at the meet.
The first day of the session will begin with a plantation programme. This will be followed by opening of the main gateway by Alok Kumar, Chief Secretary, Assam at 8.30 am.
The main naamghar of the Khetra will be inaugurated by Milik Chandra Mahanta, Satradhikar, Ram Ata Satra, Barangabari. At 10.30 am, the book fair and exhibition will be opened by Kumar Sanjoy Krishna, Additional Chief Secretary, which will be followed by the commercial fair opening by Narayan Konwar, DC, Jorhat.
The first delegates’ camp will be inaugurated by Paban Manta, CEM, Tiwa Autonomous Council. In the afternoon, the book-release function will be held where Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, VC, Srimanta Sankardev University, Hrishikesh Goswami, Media Adviser, Chief Minister, Bhaba Prasad Chaliha, retired Professor, GU and Yessey Dorje Thonggi, noted literateur from Arunachal Pradesh will take part.
In the evening, the cultural programme will be inaugurated by Angurlata Deka, MLA, Battadrava.
On February 7, the Srimanta Sankardev Sangha Credit Cooperative Society’s meeting will be held where Lalit Gogoi, Registrar, Assam Cooperative Society, Bhabendra Nath Deka, Padadhikar, Srimanta Sankardev Sangha and several other dignitaries will take part.
In the afternoon, the literary session of the Sangha will be held where eminent personalities Ravi Shankar, Gautam Patel, Dr Lakshmi Nandan Bora, Dr Reeta Chaudhury, Dr Bimal Mazumdar, Dr Deelip Bora will take part. In the evening, the cultural programme will be inaugurated by Jatin Bora, noted actor and Tarali Sarma, noted singer.
On February 8, the flag hoisting ceremony will be held at 9 am. This will be followed by ‘Bhagavad Bhraman’ and cultural procession.
The first open session will be held at 11 am where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and almost all of his Cabinet ministers will be present.
On February 9, the newly-elected committees’ meeting of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha will be held. This will be followed by the second open session where the Governor of Assam Professor Jagadish Mukhi and Hem Bhai, noted social worker will be present.
The Prime Minister’s participation in this open session is yet to be finalised. However, Akhil Gogoi of KMSS and the AJYCP have vehemently opposed the PM’s participation in the session.
