GUWAHATI, Feb 3 - The first edition of Assam Botany Congress and International Conference on Plant Science will be held at Gauhati University from February 4 to 6.
The programme is being jointly organised by the Botanical Society of Assam, Department of Botany of GU, Department of Botany of Cotton University and the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council in association with PCR Foundation, Calcutta University, Institute of Advanced Studies in Science and Technology, NERIM Group of Institutions, Assam State Biodiversity Board and Assam Down Town University, Guwahati Biotech Park, Oil India Lid and Botanical Survey of India.
“As we see an impressive progress in our understanding of plant science in recent years, the conference is being organised to provide a platform to scientists, researchers, students and nature lovers involved in different aspects of understanding Plant Science to discuss about their unique innovations, discoveries, sharing ideas and interacting with each other,” a statement said.
Altogether 600 scientists, professors, research scholars, students from India, Nigeria, Bangladesh, Chile, Japan, Singapore, Italy and Bhutan will participate in the conference. The seventh edition of Prof HK Baruah and Prof Prabir Chatterjee memorial lectures will also be delivered by Prof AK Bhatnagar, Department of Botany, Delhi University and Prof DK Upreti, CSIR, NBRI, Lucknow respectively.
On February 6, two students’ interaction programmes with world-renowned botanists will be held – one at Cotton University and the other at Assam Down Town University with selected BSc and MSc students from the entire NE region.
