ITANAGAR, Feb 3: Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa flagged off the torch relay for the 12th South Asian Games (SAG) on Wednesday from the capital of the mountainous state.

Guwahati and Shillong will jointly host the Games from February 5-16. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the Games on February 5 in Guwahati.
Rajkhowa flagged off the torch relay from the Raj Bhavan helipad here which saw participation from about 2,000 students, sportspersons and other sports enthusiasts.
As part of the relay, the torch, which came from Guwahati, was handed over to the governor by Lakshmibai National University of Physical Education (LNIPE) dean (North Eastern region) Biswajit Basumatary, who is leading the relay team.
Rajkhowa later handed the torch to Anshu Jansempa, the woman record holder Everester from Arunachal Pradesh and first Indian woman to scale Mount Everest thrice.
Earlier, the governor exhorted the sportspersons and youth to take active part in sporting activities and bring laurels for the State and the country. He also called upon the sportspersons to motivate others toward sporting activities, which would ensure physical and mental upliftment for the youth. – IANS
Asia Cup, World T20 selection on Feb 5
Mumbai, Feb 3: The Indian squads for the upcoming Asia Cup T20 tournament in Bangladesh and the subsequent ICC World Twenty20 championship in India are to be selected on February 5 at Delhi by the national selection panel headed by Sandeep Patil.
“The meeting has been scheduled on February 5 at Delhi to pick the teams for the Asia Cup and World T20 events,” Cricket Board sources told PTI today.
India would play a three-game T20 series at home against Sri Lanka from February 9, ahead of the multi-nation T20 event.
The Asia Cup is slated to be held from February 24 to March 6, after a four-team qualifying event to spot one qualifier for the tournament proper from February 19-22.
India take on hosts Bangladesh in the tournament opener at Mirpur followed by matches against arch-rivals Pakistan (Feb 27), Sri Lanka (Mar 1) and qualifiers (Mar 3).
This is the first time the Asia Cup is being played in the T20 format, in a change from the earlier 50-over competitions. – PTI
