DIMAPUR, Feb 3 - A 38-year-old businessman was shot dead by unidentified miscreants at Burma Camp area here around 8 pm yesterday.
The deceased has been identified as Seitinlien alias Charlie Hangshing, son of Paolal Hangshing, former Commissioner of Excise.
Sources said three unidentified gunmen shot the businessman twice – on the head and chest – from close range while he was sitting at a roadside joint.
Police have taken the friend of the deceased who was with him for questioning. They were together but the friend had reportedly gone out and during which the miscreants arrived and pumped two bullets on Seitinlien.
He was rushed to Zion Hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Seitinlen was reportedly running a restaurant called Café 77 at Church Road here.
Police recovered a .22 and .32 casings from the spot. Seitinlen was not involved with any underground faction nor in any illegal activity, sources said.
Heroin, gold bars seized in Mizoram
Aizawl, Feb 3 - Two persons were arrested for allegedly possessing 56 grams of heroin and 35 gold bars at Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai district, officials said.
Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department officials seized heroin worth around Rs 2.24 lakh in the local market at Mualkawi village from the possession of two persons, including a woman, on Monday, department sources said.
The officials, in a joint operation with the personnel of Customs and Central Excise, also seized 35 bars of gold (5.8 kg) in Champhai and arrested one person, he said.
The gold bars are reportedly worth around Rs 143 lakh in the local market and the seized gold bars were handed over to Customs and Central Excise, he added. – PTI
