Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, Feb 3 - Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Union Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs today visited the city to review activities on skill development in the Northeast.

The minister also attended the North East Skill Conclave 2016 organized by the Federation of Industry and Commerce of North Eastern Region (FINER) in Guwahati.

Rudy also laid the foundation stone for an incubation centre on wood work at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) and inaugurated an ‘Udyami Mitra Cell’ at IIE, which aims at supporting entrepreneurship education and guidance for young entrepreneurs – right from establishment to running operations.

Later, talking to media persons here, Rudy announced that the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) is working on a framework to ensure international placement for the youths of the Northeast, including Assam.

Rudy said that youths of the region, who have equipped themselves with the requisite training, will get a scope for working with industries across the globe. He added that within a couple of months this proposal will get a final shape and will go a long way in addressing the unemployment problem in the region.

“Unemployment is a big challenge for the region,” said Rudy observing that this problem has aggravated because of the wrong policies of the ruling Congress. He mentioned that the need of the hour was to eliminate the mismatch between the skill requirements of employment opportunities and the skill base of the job-seekers.

“Before this mismatch becomes more acute, we need to plug the gap by introducing the right training so that the youths are equipped with the requisite skills to respond to the job market,” he said mentioning that in the coming days skill development institutions would be set up in every nook and corner of the entire region.

On the other hand, the minister said that the burning issues of Assam, including unemployment, is going to be resolved under a new government in the State. He asserted that people of the State wanted a change in governance and the BJP will definitely emerge the winner with single majority. “The political developments are an indication of a big change in Assam. The people are fed up with the Congress misrule and the BJP is the only party that will realize the aspirations of the citizens,” he said.
