GUWAHATI, Feb 2 – The film lovers of the State would get the taste of some of the best films of the world in the 4th CineASA International Film Festival, 2012 to be organised from February 5 to 11 in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur.
With Naukadubi of Rituparna Ghosh as inaugural film, the festival would be inaugurated by noted actor Biju Phukan at Rabindra Bhawan on February 5.
The festival is jointly organized by the Cine Art Society, Asom (CineASA) and Film (Finance and Development) Corporation. In the inaugural ceremony, noted artiste Sangeeta Barthakur would present a musical performance dedicated to cultural icon Dr Bhupen Hazarika.
Other than four shows at Rabindra Bhawan on each day, the films would also be screened at the Gauhati University and IIT-Guwahati.
Addressing the media here, the festival director Bitopan Borborah said that the retrospective section of the festival would focus on renowned Mexican film-maker Alegendro Gonjalez Inarritu and under the 'country focus' section a number of films from Poland and Switzerland would be screened. Some other critically-acclaimed films would be screened under the 'spotlight', 'liberation stories', 'Indian mosaic', 'NRI endeavour' and 'world prism' sections.
Films from countries like France, Canada, Norway, Germany, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey and Iran would be screened in the film fest.
"We have tried to bring in the films, which have been appreciated in the events like, Cannes, Venice and Berlin film festivals," he said.
"We have decided to screen Firingoti of Jahnu Baruah, the renowned film-maker of the State, on completion of his 30 years in the field of film making. The artistes associated with the films would also be felicitated on the occasion," he added.
Meherjaan, based on the Bangladesh’s freedom movement would be the concluding film of the festival. Indian artistes like Victor Bannerjee and Jaya Bachchan have acted in the film.
From February 7 to February 9, discussions and workshops would be held in the Rabindra Bhawan auditorium. The topics of the discussion are – ‘Young filmmakers, and their hopes, aspirations and challenges,’ ‘Digital movie; the problems and prospects,’ and ‘Finance for the regional films and chances of marketing on international platform.’ Filmmakers like Jadumani Dutta, Pradyut Kumar Deka, Gautam Bora, Sanjeev Sabhapandit and film critic Altaf Mazid would take part in the discussions.
