Homen Bargohain Nyas Botas

 GUWAHATI, Feb 1 - The Homen Bargohain Nyas has nominated Rang, Antahin, Balukat Biyali Bela-famed writer Sarmistha Pritam and senior journalist Apurba Ballabh Goswami respectively for the Sahitya and Seuj Botas for 2018.

Pritam, a novelist from Pub Salmara, Nagaon, had received the Munin Barkotoky Bota in 2012 for her autobiographical writing Atmakatha.

Apurba Ballabh Goswami has been relentlessly fighting for the conservation of the Deopahar Forest in Numaligarh area. Because of his efforts, the Government declared Deopahar a proposed reserved forest in 1999. He also highlighted the ecological importance of Singhasan Pahar in Karbi Anglong, Nambar-Daigrong Wildlife Sanctuary, among others.

Goswami also played a vital role in resisting the seismic survey proposed by Oil India Ltd in the Brahmaputra in 2006.

Moreover, because of his initiatives, the Gauhati High Court in 2006 directed a trial court to continue a criminal case against an IAS officer and his accomplices for the crime of killing endangered primates etc., in Deopahar Forest.
