Sitanath Brahma Choudhury award to be conferred on Nagendra Nath Sarma
CORRESPONDENT
MANGALDAI, Jan 31 - The Asam Sahitya Sabha conferred the Sitanath Brahma Choudhury Memorial Literary Award to Dr Nagendra Nath Sarma, veteran writer, novelist, playwright, academician, scholar and former president of Darrang Zila Sahitya Sabha for his Assamese novel Ene Mrityu Silpa Nahay (Such Death is Not Art).

The news obviously made the literature-loving people and local organisations of Mangaldai jubilant. Representatives of several non- political local public organisations, including Mangaldai Media Circle, Chapai Sahitya Sabha called on Dr Sarma at his Bamunpara residence here on Thursday and greeted him with traditional gamusa, bouquet of flowers, etc.

Meanwhile, Dr Sarma told this Correspondent as follows: “Public recognition definitely makes one delighted, and I am no exception.”

Regarding his sixth novel Ene Mrityu Silpa Nahay, which earned him the prestigious award, the writer said, “The book, from a mother’s point of view, narrates the social changes that have taken place from around 1920 to 2018, where many real life stories have also been included.”

Dr Sarma hoped that the readers after reading his novel will come forward with the errors and loopholes, if any, which he believes to be his actual recognition as a successful novelist. Dr Sarma has been invited to the ongoing Asam Sahitya Sabha conference on February 2 next when he will be ceremonially handed over the award.
