GUWAHATI, Jan 31 - The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has once again launched its special programme for school children named ‘Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA), 2020, stated a press release issued here on Friday.
The programme is aimed at imparting basic knowledge on space technology to children to arouse interest in space activities. Students of class 9 (in the academic year 2019-20) are eligible, and the residential training programme will be held from May 11–22.
Three students from each state and Union Territory will be selected for the programme covering state or CBSE or ICSE syllabi. Five additional seats are reserved for Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) candidates.
Selection will be based on class 8 marks and extracurricular activities. Interested students can register online on the ISRO website – www.isro.gov.in – from February 3 to 24.
The students will be divided into four batches and will report to four major centres of ISRO. Students selected from the North East and West Bengal will be attending the programme at the North Eastern Space Applications Centre (NESAC) in Shillong.
The participants will also be given a chance to visit the rocket launch centre – Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota.
They will be accommodated in ISRO guest houses or hostels and expenditure for travel, course material, lodging and boarding, etc., will be borne by ISRO. Train fare for second class AC will also be provided to one guardian for dropping and picking up a student from the reporting centre.
