GUWAHATI, Jan 31 - In order to attract domestic tourists from Assam to ‘God’s own country’ Kerala, Kerala Tourism organised a partnership meeting with tourism industry stakeholders in here on Thursday.
The meets, planned in 10 cities of India, coinciding with the upcoming festival season in Kerala, would provide opportunities for the tourism trade in these cities to interact with tourism industry players from Kerala.
“Domestic tourist arrivals in Kerala in 2019 saw an overall increase as against last year’s figures. Total 16 per cent surge in the footfall of domestic tourists was recorded in the first quarter of 2019. The meet had been planned in Guwahati to inform the tourism industry stakeholders of the North East about the tourism potential in Kerala, as well as to eliminate the role of middlemen to offer direct and cost-effective tourism packages to the backpackers here,” Mohammad Saleem, Information Officer of Kerala Tourism said, while addressing the media here.
“The meet had an enthusiastic participation from the stakeholders here including hoteliers, tour operators and other businesses associated with the tourism industry,” he added.
The 11th edition of Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) will commence on September 24, 2020 focusing on finding global buyers and exploring new markets for Champions Boat League (CBL), adventure tourism, meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions.
Tourism officials of Kerala also informed about the seven-day Nishagandhi festival, the tailor-made packages for domestic tourists, Jatayu Earth Centre, the concept of village life experience, serene backwater cruises, calm boat rides, thrilling canoe cruises, and silent walks through lush greenery and paddy fields.
