State govt slammed for organising peace rallies
City Correspondent
GUWAHATI, Dec 29 - The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) today slammed the BJP-led government for organising the ‘peace rally’ in the State and termed it ‘the act of confronting’.

Facing a huge backlash over the CAA, the ruling BJP in the State has intensified its public outreach programme in the form of ‘peace rally’ and also to ensure that there is no further erosion in its support base.

“While the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) by various organisations, students and civil society groups in Assam continued across the State, the peace rally organised by the BJP-led government is condemnable. The people of Assam are protesting peacefully against the CAA. There is no violence at all. What is the need of these peace rallies then? It is only to divert the minds of people from the main issues,” said AIUDF general secretary Aminul Islam.

Stating that the people are protesting through art, poetry and other means, Islam said the peace rally is totally against the democratic form of agitation. “They should have stopped it immediately. If any untoward incidents happen in the coming days due to these rallies, then the government will be responsible for it,” he added.
