GUWAHATI, Dec 29 - The members of the Bengali community residing in Guwahati, under the banner of Asomiya Bengali Samaj, staged a sit-in demonstration against the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act-2019 (CAA) in the Kalapahar area of the city today.

The members demanded the exclusion of Assam from the purview of the Act.

Nearly 200 members of the community gathered on the Jonaki Bibah Bhavan premises at Kalapahar to express their resentment over the controversial legislation, holding placards that read ‘No CAA Assam’.

“We, the Bengali people all over Assam, are a part and parcel of the Assamese community. We have accepted Assam as our motherland. We will not accept the Act as it violates the Constitution and the Assam Accord as well,” stated Pranjit Kar, one of the participants at the protest demonstration.
