GUWAHATI, Dec 27 – Himachal Pradesh piled up a big score of 362 in their first innings and in reply Assam were 141 for 3 on the second day of the four-day U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy semifinal match at the Nehru Stadium here today. Resuming at the overnight total of 261 for six, the visiting team added another 101 runs with the remaining four wickets. Assam bowlers today again failed to wipe off the Himachal tail as the the tenth wicket partnership between Rahul Singh and Abhishek Thakur added 44 runs. The Himachal lower order made some useful contributions handling all the Assam bowlers with ease.
Overnight unbeaten batsmen Aatish Bhalaick and Akash Vashisht were out for 83 and 79 respectively while Sahib Malhotra (20), Rahul Singh (29) provided valuable contributions. Abhishek Thakur remained unbeaten with 19.
Assam bowler Ranjan Ramchiary ended with four wickets while Roshan Basfor took three.
Chasing the huge task, Assam openers started off confidently as Manashjyoti Gogoi (38) and Raju Das (29) added 65 runs. But after the departure of both the openers at team’s total score of 84, the hosts lost another quick wicket in the form of Sasank Neggi off the very first ball he faced. Sashank, who has been hired from outside the State, virtually threw his wicket unnecessarily trying for a shot off Akash Vashisht. However, skipper Roshan Basfor and Washiqur Rahman stemmed the rot and remained unbeaten with 32 and 30 respectively at stumps.
