DHEMAJI, Dec 26 – A fake lady journalist named Richa Sarma from Rajgarh, Guwahati was arrested at Dhemaji recently by the Dhemaji Police.
The lady, introducing herself as an online journalist, sent by the Central Government, was reportedly demanding and collecting money from the presidents and secretaries of various gaon panchayats of Dhemaji, by threatening them that unless they refused to pay her, she would publish the irregularities that were taking place in implementation of the IAY schemes in the panchayats. It was allegedly reported that she demanded Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 from every GP president and secretary.
According to the police, on the day she was arrested, she had demanded money in the same way from the president of Uttar Dhemaji Gaon Panchayat, Nitya Pawe. But when he refused to pay, she immediately left the place went to Moridhal GP and demanded money again from the president. Nitya Pawe on suspicion followed her meeting her again at Moridhal, he with the help of the people, immediately caught hold of her and later handed her over to the police.
Dhemaji police, seized two fake press identity cards, a VDO cemera, a mobile phone and a note book having a lot of phone numbers of DRDA officers, GP presidents and secretaries etc from her. After interrogation, the police sent her to jail next day.
