JORHAT, Dec 23 - Members of the Jorhat district unit of the Congress party on Friday burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the AT Road here to protest against the alleged derogatory remark (baimaan) by Sonowal on the Congress party and its president Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress party workers led by AICC secretary and former Jorhat MLA Rana Goswami and Congress’ Jorhat district unit president Dip Gogoi, a former Lok Sabha MP, carried banners and shouted slogans against the Chief Minister and the BJP.

OUR Dhubri CORRESPONDENT ADDS: Members of Dhubri District Congress Committee on Friday burnt the effigy of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and agitated against the BJP for calling Congress president Rahul Gandhi a ‘lier’.

Protesting in front of the Rajiv Bhawan at Dhubri, members of the party said that the BJP is misleading the nation and is trying to hamper the image of the Congress by calling Rahul Gandhi a ‘lier’. District Congress president Uttam Sarkar stated, “alarmed at the success of the Congress in the recent election in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chattisghar, and also in the panchayat poll results in the district, the BJP has become scared and spreading canards against the Congress.”

He also said that in a recent press meet by the Chief Minister and state BJP president Ranjeet Dass, they tried to sully the image of the Congress party and its president Rahul Gandhi.

“Such activities prove how scared the party really is from the Congress. However, the very move is unjust as the BJP is misleading the nation with a pack of lies.”
