PATACHARKUCHI, Dec 23 - Strong resentment has been brewing among the residents of Pathsala town and its surrounding areas following deplorable condition of an important wooden bridge in Ward No.1 at Krishnanagar area since quite a long time now.
It may be pertinent to mention here that this is the only bridge over which students of various educational institutions have to cross daily in order to attend their alma mater, besides hordes of other people too use this bridge in their day-to-day works.
Presently, the bridge has deteriorated to such an extent that there is every possibility of an accident taking place any moment. Further, the wooden bridge today has virtually turned into a death trap for commuters using it on a day-to-day basis. Though demands for its repair had been raised by the local people since a long time back, the plea has fallen on deaf ears.
The wooden bridge connects Lachit Nagar with Krishnanagar. Students of educational institutions like Anundoram Barooah Academy, Bajali College, Krishna Kanta Handique Junior College, Pathsala Sikshapeeth, Pathsala Siksha Tirtha, CP Saikiani Science Academy, Bajali Arts and Commerce Academy etc., commuting through the bridge always face the risk of losing both life and limbs in case an accident takes place. The Pathsala anchalik committee of AJYCP expressed strong resentment over the dilapidated condition of the wooden bridge and submitted a memorandum at the Town Committee Office of Pathsala recently and demanded construction of a concrete bridge, besides repair of the existing one for the time being to avert any untoward incident.
Biswajit Kalita, unit president of AJYCP, secretary Dhritiraj Talukdar and Kishor Roy along with others approached the Town Committee office and placed their demand to start work on a new bridge within a month, or else threatened to take a strong agitational path.
