SIVASAGAR, Dec 23 - Noted singer Dipali Barthakur’s death was widely mourned by various organisations and educational institutions here.
In a meeting held under the presidentship of Dipanjoli Mahanta in Fuleswari Girls’ HS School here, where the legendary singer had her school education in the 50s, Manoj Barthakur spoke on the invaluable contribution of Dipali Barthakur to the field of Assamese music.
At Rongpur Sahitya Sabha on the other hand, Professor Sonaram Baruah, former president of Rongpur Sahitya Sabha, said that her life can be compared with English poet John Keats. Like Keats, Dipali Barthakur with her handful of songs lit the Assamese cultural world with a rare glow.
Amitabh Baruah, Mukul Nath, Jaanam Khanikar, Umesh Changkakoti, Uzzal Thakur, Biju Moni Duta, Gitawali Hazarika and Minoti Dutta in their speeches paid glowing tributes to the singer in the meeting which was presided over by Manoj Kumar Borthakur, president of Rongpur Sahitya Sabha.
