IMPHAL,Dec 23 - Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Saturday inaugurated the 29th edition of NEOGSCON (North East Obstetrics and Gynaecological Societies Conference) at JNIMS Auditorium here.
Stating that Manipur has one of the lowest Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) in the country, he said the Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR) is also around 60 per one lakh live births as compared to the Indian MMR of about 178 per one lakh live births. The Chief Minister said that such figures speak volumes of the dedication and work being done by the Obstetricians and Paediatricians in the State.
It has been a constant endeavour of the Government in spite of resource constraints to strengthen the healthcare infrastructure, institutions and personnel in the State, he added. The Chief Minister also stated that the government is trying its best to ensure that good medical facilities are available across the State, especially in the remote and interior areas.
President of Federation of Obstetric & Gynaecological Societies of India (FOGSI) Dr Jaideep Malhotra, Director of RIMS Prof A Shanta Singh, Director of JNIMS Prof Th Bhimo Singh, Prof Ng Indrakumar Singh, members of FOGSI and IOGS and others attended the function.
