GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) yesterday described the statements made by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and State BJP president Ranjit Dass on All India Congress Committee president Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party as unfortunate and reflection of the distress in the BJP camp caused by the swelling support base of the Congress.
In a statement here, the Opposition party described the comments made by both Sonowal and Dass on the Congress and its president Rahul Gandhi as “the products of bad taste”.
The APCC also questioned the sagacity behind the attempts of the ruling party to declare the winning Congress candidates as defeated in the latest panchayat elections through counting. These attempts are also reflections of the moral defeat and the resultant frustration that has been eating into the morale of the ruling party, it said.
It needs to be mentioned here that Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP Assam president recently described the Congress and its president as ‘untrustworthy.’
The Congress questioned the trustworthiness of the BJP which is allegedly exempting the corporates from taxes and also waiving their loans, denying such privilege to the farmers whose lives have been made miserable by debt burdens.
