|AAI bid to empower villages under Rani|
GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - The project ‘Resilience building of communities around Guwahati Airport’ supported by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in collaboration with the Kamrup district administration, was inaugurated at Upardani High School, Rani, on Saturday.
The project aims to empower 15 villages in the Rani Development Block through digital literacy, access to clean drinking water, sanitation and quality healthcare along with access to clean energy. As a part of this project, a set of five computers was distributed among five schools in the Rani block.
West Guwahati MLA Ramendra Narayan Kalita, while speaking as the chief guest, laid stress on digital literacy and overall development by providing clean drinking water and mobile medical units.
KK Baishya, Deputy Commissioner, Kamrup, said the support of the people would be necessary for the success of this project. DK Kamra, Regional Executive Director, AAI, said an adequate number of solar lanterns would be distributed among the beneficiaries under the project. He also said the project is one of the best CSR initiatives to have been undertaken by the AAI in the Northeast. Preeti Soni, Assistant Country Director and Head, Energy and Environment Unit, UNDP, John Borgoyary, Regional Head, Northeast, UNDP, and Swapnali Das, Zila Parishad member, were also present on the occasion.
