GUWAHATI, Dec 23 - With a view to regulate picnickers around wildlife sanctuaries of the district, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration today issued a number of guidelines intended to check any disturbance or damage to the flora and fauna of such places and to prevent degradation of the ecosystem.
Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Dr M Angamuthu said in an order that “rollicking and frolicking to the accompaniment of high decibel music systems is prohibited.”
“Littering of picnic spots with polythene and plastic and leftover food stuff is not allowed. Carrying and using of weapons as defined in Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1971, is prohibited. Consumption of alcohol and boisterous revelling is strictly prohibited. Trespassing on wildlife sanctuaries and reserve forests will be treated as an offence,” said the order.
The district administration has also advised citizens against fishing, boating and swimming in the waterbodies in and around the wildlife sanctuaries.
It said that parking of vehicles by obstructing the animal corridors is not allowed.
“Section 144 under CrPC may be promulgated in and around areas of Deepor Beel and Amchang Wildlife Sanctuary. The promulgation of Section 144 will be forthwith (sic) encompassing (sic) the entire winter season upto March 2018,” said the order.
The district administration has also ordered the Forest Department to put in place proper signages in and around the wildlife sanctuaries.
