Indefinite bandh called in Manipur

 IMPHAL, Dec 21 – Demanding justice for the alleged molest and assault meted out to wellknown Manipuri actress Momoko Khangembam, film artistes of the State staged protest demonstration in front of the Chief Minister’s Bungalow here this afternoon.

However, police lathicharged them besides rounding up some protesters including popular actor Sunil Myboy.

Meanwhile, a Joint Action Committee demanding justice into the incident has called an indefinite Statewide general strike in the State from Friday midnight.

The young film actress Momoko, a resident of Ghari in Imphal West district was allegedly molested and assaulted by one Livingstone Anal.

Livingstone, who is said to be a key functionary of National Socialist Council of Nagalim (IM), molested the actress during a musical concert at Chandel district headquarter, on Tuesday night.

The matter was brought up in the last day of Manipur Assembly session yesterday where Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam assured that the government will take up necessary steps to book the involved person.

Earlier in the day, denouncing the inhuman act, around 500 film artistes including actors, directors and film makers in association with leaders of civil society organisations staged a sit-in demonstration and subsequent meeting at Keishampat Junction here.

The speakers in the meeting demanded justice in the incident. They also urged the government to do the needful in public interest to avoid any untoward incidents.

Momoko, who participated in the sit-in demonstration, demanded strong action against the accused.

Meanwhile, reports said the police conducted a spot inquiry into the incident by summoning the concert organisers at Chandel town.
