The artistes, wearing dhotis and gamusas, depicted CAA and those leaders supporting the Act in a satirical manner. The enactment attracted the attention of the people passing through the area, compelling them to stop for a while to have a look at the presentation.
The members of Bhaona Silpi Samaj were joined by members and supporters of several Left parties, including CPI, CPM and SFI, who enacted street plays against CAA with the same flavour. They came to the protest venue in processions by holding banners, posters, placards opposing CAA along with the red-coloured flags and shouting slogans against the BJP-led Central and State governments.
Tea garden workers from several estates located on the outskirts of the city too joined the protest by reaching the spot by taking out rallies and shouting slogans against the BJP leaders.
Workers in a large number of tea gardens across the district abstained from work in response to a boycott call given by Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha.
In the meantime, liquor shops opened after eight days yesterday in Jorhat district after the Jorhat district administration declared dry days from December 11 to 8 in view of apprehension of law and order problem following eruption of largescale protests against CAA in the district.
