DIMAPUR, Dec 20 - The Joint Legislators’ Forum (JLF) on Naga Political Issue has affirmed its commitment towards integration of all contiguous Naga areas under one administrative umbrella.
The assertion was made during a meeting of the Parliamentary Working Committee of the JLF on Naga Political Issue in the State Assembly complex on Wednesday, according to a release issued by commissioner and secretary Benjamin Newmai.
The meeting, held under the chairmanship of JLF chairman and Speaker in-charge Zhaleo Rio, was attended by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and all members of the Assembly representing different political parties, the release said.
The JLF also appealed to all sections, especially civil society groups and Naga Hohos, to have confidence in strengthening the Naga family by coming together and collectively work towards unity.
It further appealed to the Centre to expedite the ongoing Indo-Naga political dialogue so as to arrive at an early and negotiated settlement that is honourable and acceptable to the people.
Adopting a number of resolutions, the meeting acknowledged the contributions and sacrifices of all sections, especially the “Naga nationalists and their families who have selflessly worked and fought for the rights of the Nagas.”
It also appreciated the role of civil societies, mass-based civil society organisations, the church, tribal hohos, NGOs and all other sections who have positively contributed towards the Naga political issue.
The JLF further expressed appreciation of the Centre’s sincerity in the ongoing negotiations and its “accommodative and inclusive approach” besides its widespread consultations with all sections of people. The JLF further condoled the demise of NSCN (IM) vice chairman Kholi Konyak who passed away on December 12, it stated.
