JALUKBARI, Dec 20 - The Dr Anamika Ray National Media Lecture will be held tomorrow at the New Academic Building, Gauhati University at 3 pm and the lecture will be delivered by Dr Jatin Srivastava, Associate Professor, EW Scripps School of Journalism, Ohio University, USA. The lecture is being organised by the Dr Anamika Ray Memorial Trust (ARMT) in collaboration with the Department of Communication and Journalism, Gauhati University.
The topic of the lecture is “Media Literacy as Active Citizenship: An Argument”. The discussion will touch upon the relevance of media literacy for the citizens of India, which boasts sustaining the largest democracy in the world.
Dr Srivastava will discuss how the contemporary media environment has created affordances for people to engage with society and the government in new ways. The lecture will also identify ways in which it poses challenges to individuals and to democratic values.
The lecture will be inaugurated by Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University Dr Mridul Hazarika, while the chairperson of the trust Prof Madhab C Sharma will preside over the event. The other dignitaries who will be present on the occasion are Rajat Baran Mahant, Vice Chair, ARMT; Dr Hemanta Kumar Nath, Secretary of University Classes, Gauhati University and other media experts as well as prominent academicians of the region.
In order to invite discussion on the occasion as well as provide an insight into the pertinent topic, the trust members as well as the Department of Communication and Journalism have invited public participation in the event.
