ASDC flays CM’s remarks over corruption
Correspondent
KARIMGANJ, Dec 20 – The Autonomous State Demand Committee (ASDC), Dima Hasao district committee, has taken strong exception to the recent statement by Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on the multi-crore-rupee scam in Dima Hasao district and the CAG report relating to the Dima Hasao Autonomous Council, stating that it was during the Congress regime from 2001-2007 in Dima Hasao Autonomous Council headed by late Purnendu Langthasa, the then CEM of the Council, that corruption was more rampant and more funds were misused in collusion with some ministers of Assam than the misuse and corruption in the use of funds in the council from the years 2007 to 2009. Such statements referring only to the then ASDC-BJP rule in the council leaving out the state of affairs of corruption and misuse of funds in the DHAC from the years 2001 to 2007 are highly condemnable, the party said.

Rathindra Thaosen, president, and Suraj Naiding, joint secretary of the ASDC, Dima Hasao district, in a statement, expressed great concern over the alleged stepmotherly treatment meted out to the Dima Hasao district particularly on the issue of the non-release of jailed DHD (J) leaders and Mohit Hojai, the former CEM of DHAC from judicial custody and non-release of required government funds of development schemes like NREGA to Dima Hasao district, saying that when the demands of DHD (J) are within the ambit of Indian Constitution and when the peace talks of DHD(J) with the Government are in process, the Govt. has not released the jailed DHD (J) leaders and Mohit Hojai from judicial custody.

The ASDC leaders also said that some leaders of militant organisations, despite their organisations’ demands being ‘sovereignty’ and secession from the Indian Union have already been released on bail, whereas jailed DHD(J) leaders, whose demands are within the ambit of Indian Constitution, have not been released, which is an injustice to and discrimination against the people of Dima Hasao district.

The ASDC, Dima Hasao district committee has demanded immediate release of jailed DHD (J) leaders and Mohit Hojai from judicial and NIA custody. The committee has also demanded immediate release of all government funds to Dima Hasao district and reiterated the demand for a CBI probe into the scam in Dima Hasao from 2001.
