IMPHAL, Dec 18 - Manipur Police today stopped an anti-CAA rally here, which was taken out by people from different walks of life in traditional attire of their respective communities.
The rally started from the Keishampat Sega Road and marched towards the Kangla Fort.
While pressing for scrapping of the Act, the participants in the rally demanded halt to alleged harassment of anti-CAA protesters in other parts of the country.
However, on reaching the Keishampat junction, the police stopped the rallyists, leading to a heated argument among them. After a brief confrontation, the police dispersed the rallyists.
The protesters argued that the ILP system and the Sixth Schedule would not be able to protect the indigenous peoples of the region from the detrimental impact of the CAA. "Besides, the Act is anti-Constitutional in nature,” they alleged.
The rally was organised without involvement of any civil society organisation or organising body. The protesters took part in the rally on their own, the participants claimed
