|Normalcy returning to disturbed Shillong localities|
SHILLONG, Dec 18 - The law-and-order situation in the State capital has been limping back to normalcy with no untoward incident reported from anywhere today. Curfew was relaxed by an additional one hour in areas under the Lumdiengjri and Sadar police stations here. It was reimposed from 8 pm today instead of the earlier 7 pm.
Unless there is any breakdown of law and order, curfew will be relaxed at 6 am tomorrow as usual. But mobile Internet service has remained suspended in the entire State. The mobile SMS service was, however, restored on Tuesday.
Officials hoped that the curfew would be totally lifted in the curfew-bound areas ahead of the Christmas celebrations.
Meanwhile, during the day, business establishments did brisk business with shoppers rushing in to make Christmas purchases. People thronged the Police Bazaar and Bara Bazaar in hordes and several shops were lit up with decorative lights on the occasion of the ensuing festivities.
Meanwhile, a one-day Assembly session will be convened on Thursday to adopt a government resolution to bring the State under the inner line permit (ILP) regime. The session is expected to be stormy as the Opposition Congress will try to pin down the NPP-led State Government for supporting the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
