People urged to maintain peace and harmony

 SILCHAR, Dec 17 - Two days after taking charge as the new Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, Manabendra Dev Ray has urged upon the people of the district to live in congenial atmosphere and maintain peace and harmony.

Interacting with mediapersons at his conference hall on Tuesday, the new SP said, “We are all aware of the situation across the State. Hence, I urge upon the people of Cachar district to maintain peace and harmony across the society. There are ways of democratic expressions of thoughts and ideas. However, law must not be breached at any cost.” He was quick to say that Cachar being one of the bigger districts close to the international border and a corridor to neighboring states, there are stiff challenges ahead.

Seeking cooperation from the media fraternity and people at large, the new SP made it clear that there would be zero tolerance against criminal activities including special emphasis on making the district free from the clutches of drugs. “I assure everyone that there would no mercy on people found with consumption and peddling of drugs. Also steps would be taken to ensure that women of the district stay and work in a safer environment. 16 pending cases under the POCSO Act shall be disposed in the next 10 days,” the SP maintained.

Additional SP(HQ) Jagadish Das, Additional SP ( Border) Gaurav Agarwal, DSP (HQ) AJ Baruah, Dev Ray also mentioned that he has a plan to ease the erratic traffic congestion in Silchar and hinted that the autorikshaws and tuk-tuk vans shall be grouped into specific zones within the town and the outskirts to bring much needed breathing space to the commuters.

On the other hand, Additional SP(HQ) Jagadish Das informed that they are looking into the areas to intensify CCTVs across the town and said that an elaborate plan has been chalked out in this regard. Das informed that the District Administration has also extended help regarding the CCTVs under the CIDF scheme.
