|88 infiltrators nabbed by BSF in 2010|
KARIMGANJ, Dec 17 – In 2010, the Border Security Force (BSF) nabbed 88 infiltrators from the Bangladesh border and recovered illegal goods worth Rs 2.48 crore. They also seized fake currency worth Rs 1.12 lakh, 62 kg ganja, 1.5 kg heroin, 4.6 kg opium, 13,800 bottles of phensedyl and a large quantity of arms and ammunition.
Addressing a press meet on the occasion of its raising day at the headquarter of BSF Mizoram and Cachar Frontier Masimpur Inspector General ML Batham disclosed, that the length of Indo-Bangla border in Silchar sector is 138.245 km of which wire fencing has been completed in 72.94 per cent of the border. Mizoram has 347.55 km border of which 19.49 per cent wire fencing has been completed. 88.13 per cent of the road construction work of Silchar sector and 12.78 per cent in Mizoram sector has been completed.
ML Batham said to prevent anti Indian activities, floodlight facilities will be adopted in the border watch tower. Helicopter patrolling will also be introduced in Cachar and Mizoram frontier, he added.
BSF is also engaged in social services like Malaria and AIDS awareness camp, yoga and meditation camps in their respective areas.
Mizoram and Cachar Frontier has three battalions. BSF brass band along with banner displayed recently in Silchar. Various competition for BSF children were organised at BSF campus. Masimpur which included, painting and quiz. Seventy five children participated in the competition and prizes were given to the winners of the event.
A grand regimental function (Barakhana) was organised recently at Masimpur for BSF personnel and their families. The programme included a colourful cultural programme by BSF band/ brass band of 115 battalion, painting exhibition by BSF children and photography of BSF activities was displayed during the function.
