Bar body wants police firing victims compensated

GUWAHATI, Dec 15 - The Gauhati High Court Bar Association has demanded payment of adequate compensation to the families of the persons who lost their lives in police firing during the protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the State.

They also offered their condolences to the bereaved families, a press release stated.

The Association extended their support to the democratic protests against CAA in the State and condemned the alleged police brutality on the protesters.

Deploring the passage of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in Parliament, it maintained that the amended citizenship law goes against the interests of the people of the State and violates the Assam Accord.

The Association sought immediate withdrawal of the amended legislation.

The Association also appealed to the people and the organisations spearheading the agitation not to resort to violence.
