BJP sweeps panchayat polls in Sonitpur district

 TEZPUR, Dec 14 - The BJP has swept the panchayat polls here bagging altogether 17 Zila Parishad seats (out of 19 ), 72 Gaon Panchayat President seats, 73 Anchalik Panchayat seats and 472 ward member seats falling under Dhekiajuli, Barchala, Tezpur, Rangapara and Sootea LACs in Sonitpur district.

The Congress managed to get only two ZPC seats, 12 Gaon Panchayat President seats, 10 Anchalik Panchayat member seats and 151 ward member seats while the AGP had the worst performance getting only a few seats in the AP, GP and wards. It got only one GP President Seat and 41 ward member seats.

Meanwhile, delighted with the result MLA, Dhekiajuli LAC, Ashok Singhal mentioned that it was the outcome of the hard work of his party workers and their good relationship with the rural people and the BJP’s commitment of developmental work in his constituency.

Ganesh Limbu, the BJP MLA of Barchala LAC speaking on the mandate given in this election towards the BJP said that during the last tenure of the panchayats in his LAC, due to the massive corruption indulged in by the Congress, the people couldn’t enjoy the fruits of development and so for they brought about a change.

Pallab Lochan Das, Cabinet minister-cum-MLA, Rangapara LAC said that development expected through the panchayati raj system was a dream in many areas of Rangapara LAC during the Congress regime following which the residents of Rangapara area have given the mandate to BJP.
