Normal life affected in Nagaon

 NAGAON, Dec 12 - Thousands of people in Nagaon district today registered their protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill wherein journalists, litterateurs, artists, and leaders of students’ bodies took part. The agitators took out a rally from Nagaon Nehrubali field and traversed through Haiborgaon bazaar, Dhakapatty, Bor bazaar, Christanpatty, Natun bazaar, Nagaon court and other important places of the town.

The senior members of AGP Nagaon district committee and central executive members also took part in the protest. Former Minister Girindra Kr Boruah, district AGP president, Atul Medhi and other district party workers joined the rally brought out by the people. Earlier, in the morning, the protesters burnt tyres at various places of the district like Dimaruguri, Uriagaon, Bebejia, Nonoi, Pathori, Dimou, Raha and other places by registering their protest. They also shouted slogan against the Prime Minister.

Notably, AGP, Nagaon district committee along with zila mohila unit, Yuva Parishad, Farmers' unit, all anchalik committees condemned its senior leaders for their role in the Bill. The district committee also took a decision not to cooperate with the central committee . In a press release issued here today, the AGP district committee the district committee will fight against the party leadership. “Our central committee have failed to take a bold decision against the CAB which is unfortunate,” it said.

All the educational institutions, government offices, private offices and business establishments were closed.

Meanwhile, Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya, today postponed its examination scheduled from December 13 to December 16. The new dates will be announced later on.
