|Speaker urges Centre, State Govt to allay people’s fears|
GUWAHATI, Dec 12 - As the situation in Assam continued to boil following anti-CAB protests, Assam Assembly Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami today urged the Central and State governments to take steps to pacify the apprehensions of the people.
In an appeal, Goswami said it may not be proper for a Speaker to speak on a legislation passed in the Parliament, but being a leader who rose through regional politics, he cannot dismiss the apprehensions being raised about CAB by the people of the State.
He reiterated his earlier stance of being with the people and said he will not accept anything that goes against the interests of the indigenous people.
Goswami requested the Central as well as State governments to quell the discontentment among the people regarding CAB, adding that the government must heed the views of the new generation who have been at the forefront of the protests.
