Governor calls for peace, restraint

 GUWAHATI, Dec 12 - Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi today appealed to all sections of people of Assam to maintain peace and order in the aftermath of the approval accorded to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 by the Parliament.

Governor Prof Mukhi in a statement here, called upon all agitated sections of the people of the State to maintain restraint as they have been showing a high degree of patience and political maturity during every uncanny situation. He also said that if the student community has any issues against the government they have every right to agitate but through peaceful manner. They should not take the law into their hands and instead, express themselves democratically.

At the same time the Governor maintained that in view of approval to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 by the Parliament, Government of India, showing its commitment as it has always been, is taking remedial steps including implementation of Clause VI of the Assam Accord to safeguard the culture, ethos, language along with other rights of the indigenous people of Assam.

Prof Mukhi further said that in the interest and for development of Assam no citizen should damage public property.
